Introduction

Opto 22's SNAP PAC System is an integrated system of hardware and software for industrial control, remote monitoring, data acquisition, and the Internet of Things (IoT) applications. A key component of the SNAP PAC System is the controller.

What's a Controller?

The controller runs the programming logic that controls the application. Opto 22 SNAP PAC programmable automation controllers (PACs) can run this logic from a PC using SoftPAC for PC-based control, or from industrially hardened SNAP PAC standalone (S-Series) or rack-mounted (R-Series) controllers.

SoftPAC

SoftPAC™ is a software-based programmable automation controller (PAC) designed for PC-based control and is programmed just like an Opto 22 hardware PAC, but on an embedded or standalone PC.

By running on a PC, SoftPAC offers these key features :

  • Control strategy runs in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Reduced controller costs
  • Quick R/W access to files, more space for data storage, and greater processing power
